Last weekend Josh and I attended FanExpo in Toronto, where I got to meet the guys from Comic Geek Speak, and even got pulled aside for an interview (I’m on about 46min. in) – Thanks guys… Pants, it was good hanging out with you, Jack and Alex!
We also got a pretty glowing review on The eL33tist.com, and by one Mr. Snodgrass no less!
A bit of a heated debate in the comments for the last page, and although I rarely feel that I need to explain myself, I thought I’d give you some background as to what really happened…
When it came time to work out the rank insignia for the 401, I actually did some research into Canadian/British/US military insignia, but in the end decided to make one up. This allowed me to fore go rank markings for Private, PFC, etc. I wanted the first marking to be for the Squad SGT. Having three chevrons as the first marking seemed odd, so I went with a weird/hybrid chevron, and then developed the higher ranks from there (take a look at Captain Haddock’s Rank insignia in “Eve of Battle“).
However, I totally forgot about the chevrons that are sculpted into the Sergeant’s sleeve! I try to stay true to the models where possible, but this time I got so caught up in developing my own insignia, I totally forgot to check the models!
For now the insignia will remain as is but I as my art style progresses, I’ll probably see to it that the 3 chevrons make it onto the page!

Ah yes, changing the old speech from Monty Pythons ‘Quest for the Holy Grail’ allways works for grenades. And guessing from the size of the ‘boom’, it was no ordinary grenade. Hmm … did a certain soldier ‘find’ a little toy with a bit more punch?
Haha, ba-da-boom! I like that sound effect!
Leeloo Dallas multipass
If we count the negative space between the gold chevrons, the Sarge does have three chevrons.
Chevrons!!!! Don’t start that again!!
Big fan of the comic so far.
I really like the character distinction and the style, though wish there were more updates.
Though I appreciate how long it takes to create panels like this…..
Keep up the great work, looking forward to moar.
Now that clearly was a 6 on penetration!!!!!
