The Comic
Gone to Ground is a weekly webcomic based in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. The original concept behind the 401st was Stefan Grambart’s – who also does all the artwork, but Josh Garratt has become an integral and equal part of the writting/scripting process.
Stefan Grambart is an illustrator/designer based out of Toronto, Canada. Though he’s never created a comic (web or otherwise) before, he’s read a lot of them! He still paints miniatures, and plays 40K and Fantasy (read: loses) in the Ottawa/Belleville/Toronto area. He also blogs a lot of non-GtG artwork stuff here.
Josh Garratt is busy trying to become a professional writer. So busy in fact, that he hasn’t handed in his bio – and i’m sure that when he reads this one, he’ll say it’s “adequate enough”. Josh has an on-again-off-again relationship with the miniature gaming hobby. His current status is happily “on again”!
The 40K Universe
It’s probably best if you just reference Lexicanum – the unofficial Warhammer 40,000 Encyclopedia for more information on the setting; there’s just too much info to repeat it all here! Specifically, look into the following articles to start:
- The Imperium
- The Imperial Guard
- Imperial Guard Hierarchy
- Guardsman
- Cadia
- Departmento Munitorium
- Orks
The Cadian 401st Irregulars
The Cadian 401st is a regiment of modest size that is often deployed to “fill-the-gaps” in various conflicts. They rarely stick around long enough to see a war from start to finish, but are rather re-deployed to other crucial battlefields. This is not because they are elite troops or favoured in any way; it is actually due to a slight clerical error in the Departmento Munitorium! Records show that the 401st has a total of 3,333.33 enlisted men, and the erroneous fraction often causes the regiment to be overlooked for primary deployment.
More to come!
